A MUSIC FILM FOR THE FEEDBACKS

“GIANT MONSTER”
When a towering housecat lays siege to the city, a rock band becomes collateral damage in this chaotic and comedic kaiju throwback.
When a towering housecat lays siege to the city, a rock band becomes collateral damage in this chaotic and comedic kaiju throwback.
Running late to a gig, The Feedbacks find themselves caught in the middle of an all-out urban disaster. The culprit? A massive, mysteriously mutated tabby cat.
The oversized feline stomps through downtown, crushing soldiers and setting buildings ablaze with its laser vision — all while the band scrambles to survive.
Part music video, part monster movie, Giant Monster is a genre-smashing riot that plays loud and destroys louder.
The band came to us with a wild track and an even wilder idea — a giant cat attacking the city. Amazing.
Instead of leaning into campy effects as a throwback to classic monster flicks, we aimed to elevate the concept into something bold and cinematic. Inspired by the epic scale and momentum of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, I began storyboarding a full-scale urban invasion, rock-and-roll style.
Our monster? Kathy Roberts’ cat, Morpheus — a surprisingly cooperative feline with serious screen presence. We set up a greenscreen studio in our office and filmed one of the cutest rampages ever. Using cat toys and treats as stand-ins for military aircraft and screaming victims, our adorable star went to work, swatting and leaping across the screen.
On location, The Feedbacks brought along their biggest fans to join the chaos as extras, sprinting through the streets and dodging imaginary laser blasts. I originally envisioned a bright, sunny aesthetic to contrast the destruction, but the weather had other plans. Rain poured all day.
Following Christopher Nolan’s philosophy of always adapting to the available conditions, we covered our gear in plastic and kept rolling. In the end, the stormy skies gave the footage a moody texture that elevated the final look.
We covered a lot of ground for this one — both physically and creatively. From green screen creature work to live-action city escapes and VFX-heavy destruction, this music film doesn’t play it safe.
Massive thanks to Villain’s Windsor for letting us use their atmospheric bar as the band’s refuge.
This is what happens when you take a ridiculous idea seriously: a rock-fueled genre mashup that’s fast-paced, imaginative, and genuinely entertaining from start to finish.
